Android 4.4 Download Update Confirmed for Moto X, Droid ULTRA, Maxx, Mini
Motorola has announced its Android 4.4 KitKat update list, offering up the download for its flagship Moto X and Droid line.
The Moto X carrier edition and Developer Editions will get the update, along with the Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and Droid Mini, with the Moto X the most likely candidate to get the update first due to its "near stock version of Android," says Droid Guy.
No timetable for the update has been released, though Motorola promised details soon (along with a teaser) on its Google+ page. The company also offered up details that some other smartphones will get an update soon (likely Android 4.3), including the Atrix HD on AT&T, Photon Q 4G LTE on Sprint, the Electrify M on U.S. Cellular, and the Droid RAZR HD, Droid RAZR HD MAXX, and Droid RAZR M.
The Sprint Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update has arrived for the Galaxy S4, according to Gotta Be Mobile. Sprint S4 customers have confirmed the rollout of the update has begun, which means that along with last week's Verizon 4.3 update, the rumored schedule for releases has been accurate so far. The Jelly Bean update also brings support for Galaxy Gear.
The staggered release means that some Sprint users will get the software update today, some will get it tomorrow, and so on.
The releases for the Galaxy S4 on AT&T and T-Mobile are currently rumored for November 13 and 18, respectively. Next up will be the Android 4.3 updates for the Galaxy S3 and Note 2, which should arrive in the U.S. sometime in November. However, with the Android 4.4 KitKat update on its way, don't expect the same kind of urgency from Samsung and its carriers, says Gotta Be Mobile.
A bunch of new features will be included in the update for the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3, including:
-Samsung KNOX*, a secure and comprehensive mobile solution for enterprises and consumers. (*Galaxy S III 3G version will get Samsung KNOX with a platform security only in select countries.)
-Smart Switch to seamlessly transfer content from other smartphones to Samsung devices.
-HomeSync to store, share and enjoy content securely wherever you are.
-Group Play 2.5 with shared video support.
-New capabilities provide easier text input, and updated graphics and multimedia.
