Westfield World Trade Center Officially Opens
Aug. 16 marked the celebration of the Grand Opening of the Westfield World Trade Center.
What will become one of the world's most visited retail destinations, the landmark shopping mall is bringing a renewed spirit to Lower Manhattan.
The Grand Opening festivities were comprised of a color guard and flag ceremony held in partnership with Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Families and individuals with a special connection to the World Trade Center site were invited in collaboration with the 9/11 Tribute Center, Heart 9/11 and with support from the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.
Multi-Grammy Award winning singer and songwriter John Legend performed on the roof of the Santiago Calatrava designed Oculus, where he sang his classics such as "Safe Room," "Green Light" and "All of Me" for the grand finale. The day concluded with an invitation-only VIP reception and dinner held at the Westfield World Trade Center's new Eataly Downtown where leading industry influencers were in attendance, including Mr. Legend, Gayle King, Larry Silverstein, Zoe Buckman and more.
The Westfield property encompasses 365,000-square-feet of retail space and is home to over 100 global and local fashion, beauty, lifestyle and technology brands. The shopping mall will include everything from luxury and high-end concepts to everyday items that are suitable for the lifestyles of all individuals. Brands such as Apple, Bose, H&M, John Varvatos, Under Armour, Sephora, MAC, Dior and Stuart Weitzman to name a few are some of the retailers involved.
Alongside the new Eataly location, Hawksmoor steakhouse, Market Lane gourmet grocery store and Lady M. bakery are just a few food destinations offered.
It is expected that by 2017 that 60,000 neighborhood residents, 300,000 daily commuters and an additional 15 million global travelers will experience the Westfield World Trade Center.
