Sony is expected to release a new Xperia Android smartphone this September during the IFA Berlin convention. A new set of renders of the handset in question just recently leaked online, giving everyone a clear look at the still-unnamed device.

The upcoming Sony Xperia handset has a the model number F8331. The renders were published by Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks) on his Twitter account. He claims that the handset will be called the Xperia XR, meaning that it will be part of Sony's X series of Android smartphones.

The renders show that the device will come with a USB Type-C port and a dual-LED flash which are both firsts on a Sony Xperia device, as pointed out by Phone Dog.

There's no indication yet on whether Sony is planning to place USB Type-C on all of its devices, but this is enough evidence to suggest that the Xperia XR will be the first of many future Sony smartphones to come with that type of port.

Unlike any of Sony's other smartphones, the Xperia XR comes with slightly curved sides instead of being flat. Speaking of its sides, the right side of the device has the power button, volume rocker and another button that may possibly be a shortcut to open up the camera. The left side of the device appears to be quite cleaner by only having what appears to be a single button or the SIM-card tray.

The Sony Xperia XR, or the F8331, first popped up back in July when a couple of photos of it leaked online. Design & Trend reported back then the device would be slightly bigger than the 5-inch Xperia X Performance with a screen size of 5.5 to 5.7-inches.

The most recent rumor is that the new Sony handset is expected to come with either a 5.1 or 5.3-inch display with a full-HD 1080p screen resolution.

Other rumored specifications include a Snapdragon 820 processor, 3GB of RAM, an Adreno 530 GPU, a 23-megapixel camera and a 13-megapixel front-facing camera, according to Android Headlines.
