Street Art: Build Your Own Mural in NYC's East Village
First Street Green, an arts park off of Houston Street in Lower Manhattan, is looking for artists to create murals that will be featured on the park's plywood walls.
The park, which was once an eyesore filled with rats, was transformed into a park and cultural space by East Village residents. The murals will fill the park's plywood walls, which are all 8 feet high, but vary in width from 8 to 80 feet, for two to three months.
"We thought it was important to do an open call because our group wants to partner with the whole community, and we think it is important for anyone to be able to apply," Ann Shostrom, co-director of First Street Green told DNAInfo.
First Street Green's site reads: "Each selected artist will be assigned a site within a designated sub-section of the panels. These panels will be repainted on a rotating basis, with an average duration of 2 to 3 months. Proposals can involve single sections or multiple section designs."
