'Super Smash Bros.': Nintendo Leaks Cloud Character DLC Release Date, Date Of Next Direct? [RUMOR]
"Super Smash Bros.'" December Direct date may have leaked alongside the release date of Cloud's character DLC. A pulled website screenshot reportedly listed that the "Final Fantasy VII" hero and his Midgar stage will be available on Dec. 3.
The news comes to Design & Trend via Chalexiss on Twitter. The user sent a screenshot to several "Super Smash Bros." content creators that lists the Cloud DLC as available on Dec. 3. The image supposedly came from a European Nintendo page, but its details have since been removed.
Of course, as with most leaks, there's plenty of reason to take this one with a grain of salt. The graphic isn't very descriptive, and it looks like something that could be easily faked in PhotoShop. The reporting account has less than 100 followers too, which suggests that its owner isn't a known source for scoops.
On the positive side, Nintendo did reveal during its latest Direct presentation that a "Super Smash Bros." stream would be coming in December. Especially with the holidays around the corner, it doesn't seem likely that new DLC would launch too close to when gamers are already inundated with gifts. A Direct and release at the beginning of the month would seemingly offer just enough time for Cloud, and any additional DLC, to shine.
True industry insiders might recall that Dec. 3 is also the day of the Game Awards. Nintendo has historically had a big hand in celebrating that event with special content reveals. Maybe a coinciding Direct is another way of continuing the tradition. Last year, the developer showed off the first gameplay demo of "The Legend Of Zelda" Wii U.
While nothing has been confirmed about the rollout for the next batch of "Super Smash Bros." DLC, many franchise fans believe that Cloud and his stage will be available for purchase as soon as the Direct concludes. Nintendo set a precedent for that release strategy with Roy and Ryu in June.
There may be a few winning Smash Ballot characters to announce as well. Back in April, Nintendo asked fans to vote for the characters they want to see in "Super Smash Bros." Data mining from October revealed that there were three new character and stage placeholders recently added to the game's code. In that case, it's believed that a few surprise fighters will be revealed that were popular in that survey.
As much of this is all conjecture, feel free to take it with a grain of salt.
