Oculus Virtual Reality locked down a $16 million Series A sponsorship to assist them in building virtual reality gaming goggles.

According to TechCrunch, Oculus VR's gaming goggles are one of the most exciting developments in gaming right now. Game developers say it will completely change the world of play, projecting that mega companies Microsoft and Sony will have no choice but to integrate the new technology into their franchises.

The headset propels the gamer into a different world. The glasses are packed tight with 3D stereoscopic displays and motion sensors. Gamers will simply be able to strap the rift to their face, turn on a compatible game, and enter into a manufactured reality.

Oculus originally acquired $2.4 million from Kickstarter to fund the project, but the sponsorship did not fit the bill. The initial payment went towards the creation and distribution of the Oculus Rift development kits. The developed prototype was designated purely for developers to test the virtual reality waters and integrate the goggles into their games.
