'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie Casting: Film Will Be Rated NC-17, Focus on 'Modern Love Story' But 'Raunchy,' Henry Cavill for Christian Grey?
It look like fans will get their wish of the steamy sex scenes in E.L. James' "Fifty Shades of Grey" book to be in the film.
Screenwriter Kelly Marcel said that the upcoming film promises "a lot of sex" and a "raunchy" screenplay.
"Regardless of what you may think of the writing, this is a modern love story, involving two complex characters, and that's what I'm interested in," she told Style magazine, according to The Telegraph.
"You have to work at it and talk about s--- and figure it out, regardless of what that s--- may be.
"I don't care what anybody says, there is something about Christian that is old-fashioned and romantic," Marcel explained. She also said that the extensive intimate scenes in the book would have to be edited to fit them into the film, but pledged it would stay true to its "raunchy" roots.
"Well, there is going to be a lot of sex in the film," she said. "It will be NC-17 [the equivalent of a British 18 certificate]. It's going to be raunchy.
"We are 100 per cent going there.
"We did go through and decide which are our favorites and which are not. Most of them are in there, but I can't say more than that," Marcel said. "The fans love this book, and I want them to love the film as much. I want to make them laugh and cry, to turn them on. I want this to do everything."
"Fifty Shades" producers Dana Brunetti and Michael De Luca also called "Fifty Shades" a love story overall. Back in August 2012, during an interview De Luca spoke about the book.
"It's a beautiful, earnest love story. It's a 'first love' love story. A young love story. And that's the kind of engine that drives the whole enterprise. It's really about the arc of a relationship, and that I think will be easy to preserve and must be preserved in any compelling film adaptation," De Luca said.
There is no news on a script yet. But after the script comes out, there will be casting. Fans are already in frenzy as to who will play the 27-year-old sexy billionaire Christian Grey and 22-year-old virginal recent college grad Anastasia Steele.
In recent casting news (or rumors, whatever you want to call it), fan-favorite "Superman" star Henry Cavill was recently named "Breakout Star of 2013" by Fandango. According to the Examiner, this garnered a lot of attention from "Fifty Shades" fans who see the actor as a potential Christian in the film polls.
"Thor" star Chris Hemsworth is also a fan-favorite to play Christian. According to Fansshare, "Fifty Shades" producers were impressed with his performance in "Rush," which sees the actor in a number of nude scenes.
Other contenders for Christian Grey include "The Vampire Diaries" Ian Somerhalder, "White Collar" Matt Bomer, Jessie Pavelka, "True Blood" Alexandar Skarsgard, "Twilight" Robert Pattinson, and "Drive" Ryan Gosling.
