'The Following' Season 3 Spoilers: Casting News Hints At Hostage Situation With Actor Gbenga Akinnagbe
As "The Following's" premiere date inches closer, casting news continues to pour in. According to a recent report from Deadline, actor Gbenga Akinnagbe has signed on for a role in season 3 of the Fox drama. Those that don't want spoilers should stop reading, but inquisitive minds can find more details below!
According to the release, Akinnagbe will play a "Tom, a handsome and charming Hostage Rescue Team agent for the FBI. " It's not yet known how large of a role this particular character will have in the plot, but the credentials seem to suggest that he'll offer a lot more to the series than an unnamed extra.
Thankfully, Akinnagbe has quite the extensive resume when it comes to taking on roles related to law enforcement. Most recently, he joined Jack Bauer's CTU in "24: Live Another Day" as field agent, Erik Ritter. Fans of HBO's "The Wire" might also recognize Akinnagbe as Chris Partlow from his four-year stint on that series. Considering the actor played a ruthless murdering drug dealer in the latter case, one might say Akinnagbe is well-versed on both sides of the gavel.
As with any casting news, one has to question what the new role might mean for the future of the series. From what a reader can glean from Deadline's brief snippet, it's likely that hostages are going to play a critical role in some of "The Following's" upcoming episodes.
It's also worth noting that with "Almost Human's" Michael Ealy joining the cast as the season's main villain, it's likely that his character will probably have something to do with the troubling situation. Sources have called Ealy's role "chameleon-like" in the past, so it will be interesting to see if his wit will be able to outmatch Akinnagbe's supposed charm.
Alongside Akinnagbe and Ealy, "Smallville's" Allison Mack will also join stars Kevin Bacon and Shawn Ashmore in their quest to stop new and old cult-serving enemies.
For those that still haven't heard the news, "The Following" returns to Fox with a two-part episode on March 2, 2015.
