Israel's 'Dog Database' App Releases Bar Refaeli's Phone Number To The Public! Whoops!
In what some consider a poorly thought out move, Israel's Ministry of Agriculture released the phone numbers and addresses of every registered dog owner in the country. That list includes politicians, security officials and celebrities. Celebrities like supermodel Bar Refeaeli.
The information was released Thursday as part of the Ministry's "Dogs Database," an app that allows users to search for information on every dog registered in Israel. The goal is to make sure every dog is properly vaccinated for rabies and other diseases.
A spokesperson for the ministry says, "The public's interest to create a reliable, publicly available database outweighs people's right to privacy."
The application also lets users know the names of the dogs, their breeds, and whether they have been spayed or neutered. It also provides a database of veterinarians throughout the country.
So what can the app tell us Refeali's dog? Well, her name is Poochi, she's a brown poodle and she is spayed.
The Israeli government requires all dog owners to register their canines with the Ministry of Agriculture.
Benny Gantz, the head of the Israeli army, and Yohanan Danino, the head of the Israeli police force and Yair Shamir, the minister of agriculture, also have the app to thank for making their information (and their dogs') public.
