Best Buy launched a new electronics shop near its headquarters in Richfield, Minnesota, featuringa Solution Central help desk like Apple's Genius Bar. Like in Apple's stores, it allows customersto pay employees armed with POS devices instead of waiting in checkout lines.

The prototype store also reduced the amount of space for TVs and increased the space for better-selling tablets and smartphones. The store space is 80% of its traditional stores.

Best Buy is rolling out the new design, called "Best Buy 2.0" in 60 locations. The retailer plannedto replace its big box stores with smaller Mobile stores. "This is catch-up, if you will, but there'smuch more to come," said its current interim CEO, Mike Mikan.

However, it's unclear whether these changes can save itself. Best Buy shares were down 2 percentat $21.75 Tuesday. Apple fans enter Apple Store and buy the Apple product they want. But BestBuy sells hundreds of electronics from different manufacturers with a higher price than online.
