General Motors Co. is gonna greet its 85th birthday of the design department thismonth and to mark this occasion, there are released pictures of a set of the mostnotable creations in its history to feast customers' eyes.
On June 23, 1927, the GM Executive Committee agreed to create a newdepartment to "study the question of art and color combinations in General Motorsproducts" and hired the legendary Harley Earl, a custom coach builder fromHollywood and the creator of the 1927 LaSalle, as its chief.
According to Ed Welburn, the sixth design chief of GM, their best work lies ahead.

"Our global team is united around its passion for designing vehicles that make anemotional connection with customers," said Ed Welburn, "What was true 85 yearsago is still true today: A designer's role is to create a beautifully executed exteriorwith great proportions to draw you in, and an interior environment that invites youinto a relationship that develops and grows."
GM was the first automobile manufacturer to work on automotive design with anetwork of 10 Design Centers in seven countries, according to officials.More than 1,900 employees of the Detroit-based automaker are responsible fordesign improvement of every GM concept and production car and truck over theglobe.
The 25th annual EyesOn Design Automotive Design Exhibition will take placeat the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Pointe Shores, Mich on Sunday.Proceeds will go to the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology's efforts to makescientific breakthroughs for those with heavy vision loss.
