Jordan Belfort: Real Estate Agents Furious 'Wolf of Wall Street' Hired To Speak At Australian Industry Conference

Real estate agents are livid that Jordan Belfort, the real 'Wolf of Wall Street,' was hired to speak at an Australian industry conference.

Australian real estate agents are furious that real "Wolf of Wall Street" Jordan Belfort was hired to speak at their conference.

The former stock fraudster, portrayed by Leonardo Dicaprio in Martin Scorsese's "Wolf of Wall Street," is the keynote speaker at the Australian Real Estate Conference, which will be held in June.

But attendees aren't happy that Wolfie is soiling their convention, the Herald Sun reported.

"For AREC to market a convicted con artist's sales techniques and powers of persuasion is not something I want for the industry," said industry leader Brent Pullar of Harcourts Frankston.

Pullar contended that Belfort's sales techniques are useless, unethical and outdated, despite the fact that the The Wolf claims to have moralized his system.

"I don't see the benefit in glorifying outdated '90s sales techniques when the public are totally against this type of behaviour," Pullar said. "If the leaders of AREC continue to promote Mr Belfort, what message is this giving to the attendees and what does it to the industry's image?"

Belfort began a lucrative motivational speaking tour after serving two years in prison for stock fraud, having stolen an estimated $200 million from clients. Belfort's charges roughly $30,000 per speech, and his corporate seminars can cost up to $80,000.

Belfort touts his Straight Line Sales Psychology as "The best way to ethically persuade anyone to do anything."

Much of Belfort's system involves reading from a script, a sales method strangely reminiscent of the one that landed him in jail.

Pullar claimed that reading from a script is pointless.

"The best thing an agent can do with a client is work on the relationship to a point where you're a trusted adviser, instead of cold calling with a script," he asserted.

According to Belfort's website, Straight Line is "a structured set of guidelines on how to navigate a sales conversation. It is elegant and simple, but best of all it de-mystifies selling by teaching a syntax of what's required and when, in order to close the sale. It is a system that will empower ANYONE to sell like the Wolf of Wall Street!"
